David Hockney

David Hockney is one of the most influential artists of the British Pop Art movement. He gained recognition in the 1960s for his paintings on the theme of homosexual love before England decriminalized it in 1967After moving to California in 1963, Hockney began painting scenes of athletic young men surrounded by swimming pools and palm trees.

As Hockney approaches his 80th birthday, he continues to evolve. He is a versatile artist and embraces new techniques. Such as fax machines, photocopiers, computers, and even iPhones and iPad.

In 2018, Hockney set a new record for the most amount spent at auction for a piece by a living artist. His masterpiece ‘Portrait of an Artist (Pool With Two Figures)’ sold for an incredible $90.3 million. Even at its estimated $80 million, it would break the previous record. When Jeff Koons Balloon Dog sold for $58.4 million in 2013. This is a testament to the genius that is David Hockney.
